From Glasgow to the Mull of Kintyre and a short hop over to the Isle of Arran… we’ve had a great week or so and, despite what you might hear about or be experiencing in relation to hot weather & heatwaves, Kintyre definitely missed the memo but, who cares… it’s still been great!
Here’s what we have been up to during our stay on the Kintyre Peninsula…
Sunday 2nd August – drive down to Campbeltown with a stop at Saddell Abbey on the way:
Top – a new one for us, Ruddy Turnstone; Middle – Hooded Crows; Bottom – Juvenile Robin & Heron in a tree
Monday 3rd August – a trip to the Isle of Arran on the ferry:

Decided to follow the road around the island after stopping for a look at Lochranza castle…

With lots of stops along the way to look for wildlife…
The carved highland cow was at the Arran Cheese Shop near Brodick Castle & Gardens – hence the spelling of “whey”…

We hoped to see Red Squirrels but no luck today… still plenty of flowers on display, particularly the hydrangeas:
There are Hydrangeas across Arran (& Kintyre) which all look amazing
After dinner at the Lagg Distillery (which had a great view of Ailsa Craig (where all the stone for curling stones come from) & the distant Ayrshire coast) we caught the 2nd to last ferry back to the mainland… a great day out!
Tuesday 4th August – a misty & rainy day hanging around Port Righ & Carradale with some moments of brightness during an otherwise dreich walk:

Wednesday 5th August – a drive up to Skipness Castle & buying smoked salmon straight from the smokehouse:
And finally, Thursday 6th August – a drive down to the most southernly village on the Kintyre peninsula (Southend) & the Mull of Kintyre Lighthouse & finally, we saw a deer – not a red one but a Sika deer!

So, that’s it… we head off home tomorrow morning but will definitely look to return again some day!
