Last week turned out to be a week full of appointments – some due to Pete’s recent diagnosis, others to do with me attending planned visits to the Chiropractor and dentist, plus meetings with new Estate Agents too. The week was so crackers with various appointments that we had to cancel our planned visit to see our mate Pete W down in Stroud… However, every cloud has a silver lining and us not going to Gloucestershire for the weekend meant that we could have my brother Andy to stay overnight on Saturday during his 22-hour flying visit 😆
Pete has had his biopsies this week along with the bone scan. He didn’t enjoy the biopsies that’s for sure & spent a few days feeling a little bruised in all the wrong places… still, that’s hopefully the worst of these initial tests over and done with.
The bone scan was a lot less invasive – that is, apart from them injecting him with a radioactive tracer! We were aware, when we heading to the Bradford Royal Infirmary for this scan that you had to have the injection and then wait a few hours before the scan could take place… not sure what most people do whilst they are waiting in between injection & scan – maybe have a cup of tea in one of the cafes? Sit and read a book? What did we do? Headed off for a three mile walk (of course!) around a local reservoir which is very close to the hospital…

When we got back to the hospital after our little walk, we had a coffee (and cake of course – this diagnosis is doing nothing for my waistline!) and then headed back to the Medical Physics department where, complete Brucey-Bonus, there was a TV showing the football that I could watch whilst I waited. The scan only took about 25 mins this time and so we headed home (with enough time to see the 2nd half of the football – got my priorities straight!) and now wait for the results which, hopefully, will come through within the next week or so…
My visits to the Chiropractor have eventually started to work as my neck is definitely feeling a lot better. I am measuring this on the frequency of me exclaiming,“Ooo, my F-ing neck” which has definitely reduced! 😂 In fairness, I am also definitely getting a better night’s sleep now too which is a great relief.
Whilst I was at the Chiropractor, Pete met with a new Estate Agent – we wanted to check what it was they could offer us as we do not seem to be getting anywhere with YOPA… after the meeting, we decided we would drop the price by £5k and stay with YOPA for the next 6 weeks at least to see if this generates any additional viewings / offers. After this time, we figured we would have a better idea about Pete’s treatment and be able to make a decision on whether we want to stay or go… if it’s the latter, then I think we will cut our loses with YOPA and move to a different Estate Agent and see if we have any more luck with them!

Brother Andy came to stay on Saturday night following a 24-hour plus journey back from Bali… He arrived about 2ish (we were down the allotment and off for a walk at the time) and left the following day, after a visit to see Mum early Sunday morning, on the 12.30 train from Keighley back to Heathrow ready to fly out to Ireland early this morning where he’ll be leading a group of visually impaired holiday makers and their sighted guides for Traveleyes! What a life he leads!! I enjoy travelling but think I would get a bit fed up with living out of a suitcase sometimes 😆 Still, hopefully this trip to Ireland might give him a chance to catch up with our cousin Tracy & her hubby Donal who live around 20 mins from where he will be staying for part of the next few days…
After a lovely BBQ on Saturday night (a reasonably early one (for us!) as Andy was knackered!) and a good night’s sleep, Andy and I went off to see Mum about 10.30 on Sunday morning only to find that she’d had a lie-in as it was her shower day and she was still in bed! Lazy cow! She hadn’t even had any breakfast 🤣 Anyway, the staff went and made sure she was presentable and then we were able to sit with her in her room whilst she had her breakfast (followed by quite a number of jelly babies that we’d brought her – mmm… toast & Jam followed by Jelly Babies!). The staff were very accommodating for which we were grateful as it could have turned out to be a wasted visit for Andy if not!

Mum looking half asleep and still in her pyjamas! The Jelly Babies worked a treat though and she soon rallied – hahaha! 🤣
I dropped Andy off at Keighley Station just after midday and, after a bit of shopping, headed home to watch the Wimbledon Men’s final (glad Sinner won!) followed by the footy (glad England won!)…
We actually got our own Yorkshire heatwave this week and it has been really lovely… I am never going to say it was too hot but it was pretty warm! The heatwave coincided with the introduction of a hosepipe ban by Yorkshire Water from Friday 11th July which meant that Pete was in a rush to get our little pond cleaned out and refilled alongside everything else we’ve been up to! I am sure I read somewhere they expect this hosepipe ban to now last until the winter which seems a long way off at the moment!
As I said above, we were supposed to be going to see our friend Pete down in Gloucestershire but had to cancel which was a shame because it was his birthday on the 11th – Happy Birthday Pete! We will rearrange our visit soon! 😄
